This invitation set was created for Pete’s surprise party. Pete was retiring from UPS and his daughter wanted unique invitations to notify the guests about his retirement. The only information I got about this set was that they were having UPS truck cake, so she wanted something to compliment that. Needless to say, I was excited to run wild with creativity for this one!
.
I used “brown bag” paper for everything to portray the idea of a box shipped by UPS.
.
I created the invitation to look like a UPS label, with each line holding a bit of information about the event. The RSVP card was made to match, with the bar code print used to tie both pieces together.

The envelopes were also made out of “brown bag” paper and stamped with a “Fragile” stamp. The addresses of the host and the guests were printed on labels and the attached to the envelope. I had all of the envelopes postmarked at UPS rather than putting a sticker on them to keep it as “non-US Postal Service” as possible.

The finishing touch of the invitations was a piece of bubble wrap that was inserted on top of the invitation where a piece of vellum is usually inserted to protect it.

They liked the invitations so much that they made a framed display of them to put by the guest book, which I thought was pretty cool. And unfortunately the UPS truck-shaped cake didn’t work out, so they ended up scanning my invitation design and putting it on the cake. I’ve never been so flattered!
.
Pete’s daughter, Shelly (a friend and former classmate of mine), was wonderful to work with – she was so easy-going and she really let me play with the creativity of the project, which ended up turning out really neat.
